If you have just got a “Three” USB modem such as the Huawei E220 you should be able to connect without too much difficulty (although the process still needs smoothing out a bit). However some people have noticed issues with the type of IP address they receive from the network. Apparently under XP they are assigned a “real IP” of 92.40.61.* but under Linux get a “private” IP (10.119.64.*). You can get more control following the Mac instructions, and using an ASN address “three.co.uk” rather than “3internet.”
Should your USB be a Huawei E169G, then things might be a little more fiddly. Try following the instructions at Liam Green-Hughes.
Also check out Dale Lane’s blog where he done a write up on getting the device working. The main extra utility required for the Eee is the USB Switcher application, allowing you to decide which part of the device is available to the OS.
Vodafone have a dedicated open source team known as Betavine. They produce the Vodafone Mobile Connect (VMC) application and you don’t have to be a Vodafone customer to use it.
